My first encounter with yoga came at an early age, as a member of the Colombian diving team. An important part of our training was the practice of mindfulness, and meditation.  Unfortunately, my diving career ended abruptly due to a back injury while performing a new jump.  Although this injury closed one door it opened the door of discovery into deeper aspects of myself. I am now able to see this accident as a gift, an opportunity to immerse myself in an integrated healing process.  Yoga helped restore my health and physical strength and more importantly, it has been a powerful tool that reminds, me who I truly am.

As a former engineer and elite athlete, I learned the value of discipline, commitment, and perseverance. Applying these principles to my daily life and yoga practice, helped heal not only my back but also my spirit.

My study of Ayurveda, the medicinal branch of yoga, also known as the science or knowledge of life, helped me to understand, and recognized, that one does not need to stay trained in disciplines that spread the belief that one must obey fixed sequences, because “that is the system” or said even more egocentric: “this is the real, best yoga system.” I was less than enthusiastic to this belief and opposed those idealist approaches to yoga. For me, yoga has always been a tool to help one awaken into the true essence of ones’ life. To me, yoga is not a competition, nor a one fixed approach but, the opportunity to live a mindful and conscious life, while creating balance with our environment, nature, humanity and our body, mind, and spirit.

In 2014, I decided to take the Ayurveda Healing course and I am now a certified Ayurveda Life-Style Counsellor. This ancient science of life reinforces my belief that to reach optimal health (balance and integration of physical body, mind, and spirit) one needs to be in tune with Nature while understanding and respecting their own particular constitution.

 

I deeply appreciate the wisdom, knowledge, love and commitment of my teachers: Tina Gokstorp (YTT), Jason Crandell (Vinyasa YTT), Leslie Kaminoff (Yoga Anatomy TT), Karen Major (Iyengar method), Todd Norian and Ann Greene (at that time call Anusara YTT), My Ayurveda teachers Jackie and Greg Van Acker, Dr. David Frawley (Vamadeva Shastri) and his wife yogini Shambhavi L. Chopra.
